Exposition of Luke Chapter 9
Revelations on Luke Chapter 9
Power over the Devils and Diseases
Verse 1 Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases.
The Lord had 12 disciples who were also called Apostles. He called them together. There is increased productivity in togetherness. He had been training them on the principles and operation of the Kingdom of God. Now Jesus wanted to give them a practical lesson. He called them and gave them two things. One. Power AND Two. Authority. He then then showed them the purpose of the two things He has given them. To defeat devils, destroy their works and to cure diseases. Imagine Judas Iscariot was also given power and authority. He had power over devils at this time but later devils destroyed him.
The two are still the signs of a person send by Jesus Christ even today. They have power and authority over Devils and Diseases. If these things are not dealt with they cause Distress and Death.
Those who have worked with the Lord Jesus know that we release the power through touching in the Name of Jesus and release the authority by speaking words in the Name of Jesus.
A person send by Jesus has power. I know this by experience. Sometimes the power comes just before I preach the word of God. Sometimes the power comes before I leave the house to preach the word of God. Sometimes it is too strong I feel my bones burning and something like oil flowing into my hands. Sometimes the power comes as I pray for people to be healed. Sometimes it causes me to tremble in my feet. The authority does not have a lot of sensation. It works by using the name of Jesus and by operating in the office the Lord Jesus has placed you. In my prophetic office I can use the authority of being send by Jesus to do His work. We can operate by authority at all times. Deliverance services have more power, it is like a whole room is filled with the fire and power of God. Devils scream out very fast and people are healed and delivered. I have experienced these many times.
When it comes to healing, we are supposed to heal, we do not start to pray, we just heal. What do I mean? We say, “you spirit of whatsoever disease come out and we command the body to be healed and made whole in Jesus Name”. Jesus always made people whole even when they asked to be healed of a particular illness like issue of blood for the woman. We must be made whole. The whole person is spirit, soul and body according to 1 Thessalonians 5:17)
Verse 2. And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick.
He sent them to do just two things. One. To preach the kingdom of God. Two. To heal the sick.
This is the message we are supposed to preach to all creatures. We should demonstrate the kingdom of God through healing. The kingdom of God is also called the kingdom of light. It is preached so that it can replace the kingdom of satan. Satan kingdom is also called the kingdom of darkness. Darkness here means ignorance. We must preach the King of the Kingdom of God. The King is the Lord Jesus Christ. If one is to enter the Kingdom of God he or she must admit and confess that Jesus is Lord. By confessing that Jesus is Lord, one is translated from the kingdom of darkness to the kingdom of light. Colossians 1:13 says, Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:
The mouth is very important for one to be translated from one kingdom to another. Roman 10:9-10 says, That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. We should be sure to preach the four things of entering the Kingdom of God. 1. Repentance towards God. 2. Believe in the Lord Jesus. 3. Be baptized in the Name of the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit. 4. Receive the Holy Spirit. These are the four steps followed by anybody who entered into the Kingdom of God or was born again. The THREE strategies to be effective in preaching the Kingdom of God
VERSE 3 And he said unto them, Take nothing for your journey,
neither staves, nor scrip, neither bread, neither money; neither have two coats apiece.
Strategy number one: Take nothing
The Lord Jesus gave the clear directions of what to do in order to be effective as minsters of the gospel of the kingdom of God. These are the instructions.
- Take nothing for your journey. Walk by faith. I shall meet your needs. Do not look dangerous by carrying things. Do not confuse the listeners by them seeing you carrying things. If it was today, The Lord could have told them, do not carry mobile phones! The command is, carry nothing!
- The Lord even says the nothing includes, even staves or walking sticks. This can look dangerous. We are not fighting physical wars, so do not carrying walking sticks. You are supposed to be healed from any walking problem which requires a walking stick! Amen. This is the kingdom of God.
- The nothing also includes not carry a scrip. The scrip was a money collecting bag.do not seem like you are collecting money. Do not collect money from anybody. This is the plague of the last days because, men who collect money make the gospel to be ridiculed. Stop that! The early apostles said, one of the signs of a false prophet was the act of asking for money. The command of the Lord is still, do not make provision for money to be given to you. The kingdom of God should be good news to the poor, not an extra burden for the poor. We come to bless you. Not to demand that you give me so that you can be blessed. If your God is great, He should have equipped you to be able to sustain yourself in the field. Jesus Himself gave the poor bread and fish. He was the giver not the receiver.
- The nothing also included also not taking food as you go around preaching and healing the sick. Let it be by faith. Do not even carry healing oil bottle.
- The nothing also included, do not carry money. This is a clear message do not ask for money do not carry money. Live a life of trust to God. Do not put your trust in your money. God shall provide for you in the field. You have power and authority. Preach the kingdom and heal the sick. You shall be taken care by the kingdom you preach.
- The nothing you take also included, do not put on two clothes. Look simple; so that the power of the kingdom can be demonstrated to all. Make the kingdom message simple through a preaching of it by simple anointed people not with the wisdom of men so that the power of the cross may be manifested.
Strategy number Two. Abide until you root disciples in the kingdom
Verse 4 And whatsoever house ye enter into, there abide, and thence depart.
Remember you are to go from house to house. But if you enter into a house. Stay there and make disciples not just converts. Let the whole family be converted and discipled. Let them see the reality of the Kingdom goodness. Ground them well. Do not go from house to house without letting the people to see you living the kingdom of God in their house. Heal the sick in the house in a way that they shall see the kingdom in a practical living in their own house. Go for quality converts not quantity converts.
Strategy number Three: Do not waste time
Verse 5 And whosoever will not receive you, when ye go out of that city, shake off the very dust from your feet for a testimony against them.
The Lord told His disciples to be aware that some will refuse the message of the kingdom of God. But, He told them not to waste time but to go from that city with a dislike even of the dust of that gospel rejecting city. This is because every city must have a testimony. The dust shall bear witness in the last day that some feet stood there saying, “there is a kingdom of God where sins are forgiven and God judgement avoided”. The feet which stood here had power and authority to save us from eternal doom. But, God shall not violate the will of men.
These are the three strategies which the Lord Jesus gave the twelve apostles, including Peter, John, James etc.
The mission impacts
Verse 6 And they departed, and went through the towns, preaching the gospel, and healing everywhere.7 Now Herod the tetrarch heard of
all that was done by him: and he was perplexed, because that it was said of some, that John was risen from the dead;8 And of some, that Elias had appeared; and of others, that one of the old prophets was risen again. 9 And Herod said, John have I
beheaded: but who is this, of whom I hear such things? And he desired to see him.
When the instructions are followed the gospel causes great impact. The mission had great impact. The preaching of the kingdom of God is here referred to as the preaching of the gospel. Surely it has great impact. They were healing everywhere. They followed the strategies of the Lord Jesus of carrying nothing, making quality converts with power and authority and shaking dust to rebellious cities. The impact reached even Herod. It shook the political powers. It reminded them of their past sins. Herod was perplexed. It made politicians to be shaken to the core. This is power without guns. Power without money. Power without even a walking stick. It seems the impact of this mission was comparable to the mission of John the Baptist and the ministry of Elijah. It is time to follow the strategy of Jesus Christ. It is this strategy that transforms society. It shakes political systems. It does not operate on the money system of satan. It is the message of Jesus as king of the Kingdom of God. Everybody shall ask, who is this? The gospel creates a hunger after Jesus. They shall desire to see Him. It uses miracles as amplifiers to pull crowds.
There is need to rest and refresh after fighting with devils
Verse 10 And the apostles, when they were returned, told him all that they had done. And he took them, and went aside privately into a desert place belonging to the city called Bethsaida.
The apostles, are now well mentioned. You can see the difference. Before they were sent they were disciples. But after they are sent, they became the apostles. The Word of God here tells us what to do after a mission.
One. You should report back to the Lord Jesus what you have done. I have found this very educative, for the Lord usually tells me the places where I made mistakes and the places where I did very good. He also gives us more instructions on how to be more effective. Two. You must listen for guidance of where to go next. The Lord knows where you can relax and be refreshed so that you can win any counter-attacks. It should be a private place. A place with less people. A place where heaven can restore your vitality and program you for the next task.
Jesus is always working
Verse 11 And the people, when they knew it, followed him: and he received them, and spake unto
them of the kingdom of God, and healed them that had need of healing.
Jesus Christ could not be hidden. The people knew where He was. How did they know? People wanted to follow Jesus. Those who followed Jesus where received by Him. When He received them, He did the two most important things. One. Preach the kingdom and Two. Heal the sick. The kingdom has the power to attract people. The kingdom of God always has healing. The kingdom of God spreads and conquers everywhere.
Jesus had mega crusades without microphones and choirs
Verse 12 And when the day began to wear away, then came the twelve, and said unto him, Send the multitude away, that they may go into the towns and country round about, and lodge, and get victuals: for we are here in a desert place.
Jesus used to preach until evening. I can imagine the words of wisdom from the Lord. When the twelve apostles refreshed, they came to where Jesus was. They should have been surprised to find that their private place was invaded by a multitude of people. They were so surprised that they said, “send them away”. But Jesus is full of compassion. His love for humanity is very deep. Even after being given three reasonable reasons like: This place is a desert; This place has no food. This place has no place to sleep. He still wanted to multitude to sit down and eat! This is the compassion of Jesus.
Jesus is a master multitude feeder
Verse 13 But he said unto them, Give ye them to eat. And they said, We have no more but five loaves and two fishes; except we should go and buy meat for all this people. 14 For they were about five thousand men. And he said to his disciples, Make them sit down by fifties in a company.15 And they did so, and made them all sit down.16 Then he took the five loaves and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed them, and brake, and gave to the disciples to set before the multitude. 17 And they did eat, and were all filled: and there was taken up of fragments that remained to them twelve baskets.
The challenges of Jesus so that we can trust Him more
The Lord Jesus wanted to challenge His disciples to focus on a new dimension of the kingdom of God. This was beyond healing and casting out devils. It was the realm of physical satisfaction for everybody. A satisfaction whereby there shall be much remaining. It shows the riches in the kingdom of God. It was to enable the disciple to be enriched in their mission package. The disciples where to understand why they were not to carry money and wallets for collecting money. They were to understand why they were not to carry food. They were to provide food for people. The Lord challenged the disciples, give ye (plural for you) them to eat. But the Lord has told them to carry no food. So, the disciples where really now ready for a real revelation. It is in that state that you are sure that all glory is His.
The disciples had only five loaves and two fish. But amazingly they seemed to suggest that they had money to buy food for the whole multitude. It was a multitude. Of about, 5000 men, and 15000 women and children.
Then the Lord said, “make them sit down”. Wow, it is late in the evening, and you are telling them to sit down in a desert place without food? This could be a disaster? They are even to sit in groups of 50. This is a multitude sir! It means there were about 20000 people in the multitude. If they sat in groups of 50, this could have produced about 4000 groups! This is a mega work for 12 disciples who were already come to rest after preaching. It is a mega work in the evening. Praise God Almighty, after the Lord Jesus took the loaves and the fish and looking to heaven and blessing them and breaking them, they multiplied exceedingly. I think they were multiplying in the baskets as they were being distributed. Even the baskets could have been multiplied. Because after the bread-fish feasting, there were twelve baskets. Originally it was one basket.
The equation could have been:
Blessings of Jesus (2 Fishes + 5 Loaves) = 20000 satisfied men + 12 baskets (Fishes + Loaves)
Evaluating the Work
Verse 18 And it came to pass, as he was alone praying, his disciples were with him: and he asked them, saying, Whom say the people that I am?
It is good as minsters of the kingdom of God to evaluate our work. We might pray and preach. But we should make sure we have abiding fruits. Even Jesus was concerned. He had preached to them. He had sent disciples to them. He had healed them. He had given then fish and bread. But the objective of the mission was for them to know who He was as the savior from eternal damnation in the lake of fire. So, Jesus got concerned and asked, whom do people say that I am? Amazing, Jesus is concerned about what people say! Many could have said I do not care what people say. But the Lord Jesus, knew the gospel is propagated and sustained through having a clean conscience before men and God. The Lord wanted to know the opinion of people! It seems to indicate that whatever we do should make people to have the right picture of who Jesus is.
Do not be surprised by different opinions
Verse 19 They
answering said, John the Baptist; but some say, Elias; and others say, that one of the old prophets is risen again.20 He said unto them, But whom say ye that I am? Peter answering said, The Christ of God.21 And he straitly charged
them, and commanded them to tell no man that thing;
22 Saying, The Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be slain, and be raised the third day.
When the gospel is preached in any place. It causes divisions. It is amazing that men can look at the same picture and see different things. This is the main cause of the many different denominations in the Church. They are speaking about the same Jesus but they are differing in what they see. Look at the different perceptions, some say this is John the Baptist, some say this is Elijah, some say this is an old prophet has risen. It seems they were expecting a great prophet to raise from the dead and be great in the world. It seems the message of the Messiah coming to die and raise again was preached in those days. They were very close to the truth. Only few people had gotten the right revelation. That, this is the Christ of God.
There is the timing for telling any revelation to a human being. Missing the right time can be very dangerous for the welfare of other men. This is because if men knew that Jesus was the Messiah they could have accepted Him in the flesh and miss the spiritual dimension of His work which was to pay for their eternal redemption. Jesus was to first to pay the price for the sins of men and buy the earth back with His own precious Blood.
One revelation leads to another revelation
Verse 23 And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. 24 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save. it.25 For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away? 26 For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father's, and of the holy angels.
After Jesus has been raised from the dead, men who will desire to follow Christ Jesus will have to be follow a certain procedure. The procedure was to be followed by any man. It had three components. One. There was to be a denying of oneself. Two. There was to be a taking up of a cross daily. Three. Following Christ Jesus.
The reason why many are missing Christ is because they do not do the three steps daily. Yes, I said daily. Not once per week. It is daily. Daily denying oneself. Daily taking the cross. Daily following Christ. When Christ Jesus looks back He expects all His followers to be carrying their cross and following Him with absolute determination.
The denying of oneself means to say daily, “not my will but your will be done”. It means, applying the cross upon our soulish life every day. It means saying no to fleshly and worldly desires and saying yes to the will of God, No matter how painful. No matter how lonely. The Lord Jesus gave us the example. The cup of salvation was too bitter for Him but He was merciful enough to say, “nevertheless, not my will but yours be done”.
The Lord Jesus even illustrated to us the folly of not following His advice. He did this by asking a question. The question has an obvious answer. He asked, “what is a man advantaged if he gains the whole earth and then loses his life? The Lord gave a clear indication that who ever shall try to save his life shall lose it but only those who shall lose their life for His sake shall save it. In other words, even those who do their best to preserve their lives through worldly means they shall lose it. Even those who lose their lives religiously without Christ shall still lose their lives. He was saying that the only way to gain our lives was to lose them for His sake. To be a follower of Christ might be sacrificial. The sacrifice is eternally worthy. If we are not careful, the world might press us to feel ashamed of preaching a kingdom to come.
A demonstration of the external appearance of the Kingdom of God
27 But I tell you of a truth, there be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the kingdom of God. 28 And it came to pass about an eight days after these sayings, he took Peter and John and James, and went up into a mountain to pray.29 And as he prayed, the fashion of his countenance was altered, and his raiment was white and glistering.30 And, behold, there talked with him two men, which were Moses and Elias:31 Who appeared in glory, and spake of his decease which he should accomplish at Jerusalem.32 But Peter and they that were with him were heavy with sleep: and when they were awake, they saw his glory, and the two men that stood with him. 33 And it came to pass, as they departed from him, Peter said unto Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias: not knowing what he said. 34 While he thus spake, there came a cloud, and overshadowed them:and they feared as they entered into the cloud.35 And there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him.36 And when the voice was past, Jesus was found alone. And they kept it close, and told no man in those days any of those things which they had seen.
This is a very interesting passage. The Lord Jesus is opening the veil for His disciples to see the future. The future glory in the kingdom. He shows them that Kingdom of God is entered after a changing of the body to a glorious boy. It shows the kingdom of God has the old prophets. It shows the old prophets are aware of what is happening on earth. The kingdom of God is spiritual. It shows how the kingdom of God is aware of even the immediate things which are to happen on earth. It shows that God can open our eyes to see, hear and feel the kingdom now. Peter saw and identified the people in the kingdom. In the kingdom you get supernatural ability to know past people. Brothers, and sisters, this is a new dimension of prayer, where one prays like Jesus and is given exact details of what is going to happen in his or her life. It is a prayer which invokes heaven to come done. Reverently, it is a prayer which made God to speak audibly on earth. Peter, later used this experience of the Moutain to defend the gospel in 2 Peter. He said, in 2 Peter 1 16 For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty. 17 For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.18 And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.
In this experience, we can learn the love of Peter for Jesus. It shows clearly how Peter loved Jesus. He loved Him so much that when he decided to get houses for everyone, he never began by his house, but began by seeking a house for Jesus first. It is Jesus first.
The losing of the power and authority
Verse 37 And it came to pass, that on the next
day, when they were come down from the hill, much people met him.38 And, behold, a man of the company cried out, saying, Master, I beseech thee, look upon my son: for he is mine only child.
39 And, lo, a spirit taketh him, and he suddenly
crieth out; and it teareth him that he foameth again, and bruising him hardly departeth from him.
40 And I besought thy disciples to cast him out; and they could not.
41 And Jesus answering said, O faithless and perverse generation,
how long shall I be with you, and suffer you? Bring thy son hither.42 And as he was yet a coming, the devil threw him down, and tare him. And Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the child, and delivered him again to his father.
We know in verse one of Luke 9, that the disciples had been given power and authority over all devils. But now we see they could not cast out devils in the same chapter. It seems they lost the power after sometimes. It is possible to lose anointing if we do not keep close to the Lord. We see devils working destruction in the life of a child so as to frustrate a family. We see a father crying for help but, the disciples are helpless. What could have made them to lose the power? We have another lesson to learn here. However, Jesus who is the same yesterday today and forever delivers everyone.
The need to mediate on the word of God
Verse 43 And they were all amazed at the mighty power of God. But while they wondered everyone at all things which Jesus did, he said unto his disciples,
44 Let these sayings sink down into your ears: for the Son of man shall be delivered into the hands of men.45 But they understood not this saying, and it was hid from them, that they perceived it not: and they feared to ask him of that saying.
There are times when we need to mediate on the Word of God and let it sink down into our ears! Hallelujah. What we believe is what controls us. The word of God in us will make us to be able to interpret the times we are facing and the times to come. Otherwise we shall be offended. If we do not mediate on the word of God we shall not understand. The word of God in us will banish fear from our lives.
The three mistakes of the Apostle John
Verse 46 Then there arose a reasoning among them, which of them should be greatest. 47 And Jesus, perceiving the thought of their heart, took a child, and set him by him, 48 And said unto them, Whosoever shall receive this child in my name receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me receiveth him that sent me: for he that is least among you all, the same shall be great.49 And John answered and said, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name; and we forbad him, because he followeth not with us. 50 And Jesus said unto him, Forbid him not: for he that is not against us is for us.
The apostle John was later the apostle of love, but before he was born again he was seeking his own blessings. He even with his brother at one time send their mother to ask Jesus to give them the two senior most seats in the kingdom. But Jesus told them the great secret of greatness. He said, the way up is the way down. That is, the least among you shall be the greatest. It means grace is given to the humble. But John still wanted the group of kingdom preachers to be only theirs. He said, if one is not in our denomination, in our group, in our church, let us forbid him. We only recognize our people. Jesus is still correcting people and urging them not to fight religious battles.
Apostle John third mistake
51 And it came to pass, when the time was come that he should be received up, he stedfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem, 52 And sent messengers before his face: and they went, and entered into a village of the Samaritans, to make ready for him.53 And they did not receive him, because his face was as though he would go to Jerusalem.54 And when his disciples James and John saw this, they said, Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven, and consume them, even as Elias did?55 But he turned, and rebuked them, and said, Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of. 56 For the Son of man is not come to destroy men's lives, but to save them. And they went to another village.
After Jesus affirmed that the disciples had a revelation that He was the Christ, He decided to set His face to go to Jerusalem and be crucified. In another place in the Bible, Peter tried to hinder Him from going to be crucified. Although it was satan pushing Peter. But Jesus set His face. We need to study the characteristics of the face of Jesus. His face was a face of love. It was face full of joy. It was an attractive face. A face which even children were attracted to it. But that face was facing a big challenge. It was to face enemies. It was to be slapped. It was to be spat upon. But The Lord decided to set it. That face was not to be not changed by Him going to be betrayed by a friend, denied by a friend, ashamed publicly, experiencing the most painful pain of being forsaken by the Father. It was to remain a face of love and compassion. My brothers and sisters we should not change our face because of circumstances. Let us see the fruit of maintaining our face. Jesus saw that if He did not set His face we could not be saved. He said, for the sake of you and me, let me set my face and despise and endure the cross for us to enter into glory. Thank you Lord Jesus.
Can you imagine, as Jesus is setting His face of love, at the same time, His disciples, John and James, the sons of Zebedee were desiring to burn the Samaritan people with fire. Brothers and sisters, there is no need of burning people just because they do not support your ministry. Absolutely no need. Leave them alone. Thanks be to God, the ministry of Jesus was not changed by disciples shouting or Samaritan hindering. He remained focused. The Son of man came to save. What did Jesus do? Look at the strategy: Jesus just went to another village.
Remember, men are acting strange because they have another nature which is selfishly destructive. So, forgive them and snatch them from the fire.
The three kinds of disciples
Verse 57 And it came to pass, that, as they went in the way, a certain man said unto him, Lord, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest.58 And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.59 And he said unto another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father.60 Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God.61 And another also said, Lord, I will follow thee; but let me first go bid them farewell, which are at home at my house. 62 And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.
The first disciple
This is a voluntary disciple. He said, “Lord I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest. No body called him. He called Himself and presented himself to Jesus. The Lord did not tell him that he can not follow Him. Because, the invitation for discipleship is given to all. The Lord Jesus gave Him the idea of the cost of following Him. He told him, that following Jesus does not have a provision for rest. Because on earth there is not Rest, just like on earth we have earthly foxes who try to get rest by going to holes, the disciple of Christ has no rest. Demons, men and world systems shall give the disciple enough trouble.
The second is there is no spiritual rest. The devils will fight the disciple of Christ. Unlike the birds that have nests, the disciple must be ready to obey, “go ye into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. Spiritual battles just change versions, they are always present.
The second one disciple
The second one is actually called by Jesus. This is a call to an apostolic ministry. It is the same call as was given to Peter and James. But this man missed an apostolic call. He could have had a book in the Bible. But this man was hindered by his deep family Relationships. He focused to being sensitive to bury his father. But Jesus was teaching that the call to obey God should not be affected by family ties. Some of these relationships has spiritual connotations. We must be set apart for the Lord. This means we must be holy.
The Third disciple
The third one was also a self-voluntary disciple. He decided, Lord, I will follow thee. But He was still was so much attached to human Relatives and affection. He wanted them to be aware of his faring. But Jesus said, you can not start on this journey and look back. Imagine a person ploughing and is looking back will make very crooked lines and might even uproot the crops in the farm. A true disciple is only concerned with the Lord’s opinion and not men opinions.
The three disciples teach us that neither family and human emotional issues can affect us in His work. The call is a full-time job, of day and night. The birds can fly during the day and rest in their nests at night and foxes can work at night and rest in holes during the day, but the disciple of the Lord Jesus is never resting and is never look back. This is a lifelong eternal commitment.
